EUCLI exists to contribute to better lives for older adults in Europe.

EUCLI started in early 2026 as an independent, volunteer-run initiative. It brings together people working on ageing to connect, learn from each other and achieve more together to improve the lives of older adults.

Why EUCLI exists

For years Joanna's work was focused on the US market. There she saw how a functioning innovation ecosystem works in practice: how the right people find each other, how ideas get tested against reality, and how money flows toward things that actually help.

Looking at Europe from the inside, she found something different. Genuine expertise, real innovation and people who care deeply, but very little holding it together. There was no shared map, and strong ideas tended to stay local because there was no easy way for them to travel.

Older adults across Europe deserve innovation that actually reaches them, not only pilots in capital cities and not technology built without their input. EUCLI is an attempt to build some of the infrastructure that makes that more likely.

Our mission

To contribute to better lives for older adults in Europe by strengthening collaboration across care, research, business, policy and lived experience.

Our vision

A Europe where ageing is approached with dignity, realism and shared responsibility, and where innovation serves people rather than systems.

Our role

We don't compete with the networks already doing good work. We try to connect them, a bit like a train station where many lines meet.

The people shaping EUCLI

Joanna Ata

Founder, World

Joanna has worked in ageing, longevity and AgeTech for more than 12 years, first around the US ecosystem and now across Europe. She writes about loneliness, ageism and the economics of ageing, and she founded EUCLI because she kept seeing good ideas fail to reach the people they were built for.

Silvia Pellegrini

Founding Member, Italy

Silvia Pellegrini is a healthcare strategy and innovation consultant with more than 20 years of experience across European and global healthcare, shaped by a multicultural background spanning Italy, the United States, and Puerto Rico.

With a background in psychology and health administration, her career has taken her across hospitals, scientific foundations, healthcare communications, public health and marketing consulting, giving her a broad understanding of how innovation, healthcare delivery, and human behaviour interact. She has led initiatives in telemedicine, healthcare professional engagement, digital transformation, and customer experience, helping healthcare organisations bring innovative services and solutions into practice.

For more than 15 years, Silvia also served as Secretary General of the International Scientific Forum on Home Hygiene (IFH), a global scientific foundation dedicated to infection prevention for fragile patients cared for at home, supporting the growth of its international network and scientific outreach.

Today, she works as an independent consultant, helping healthcare organisations bring innovations that improve the experience of patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals using digital technologies, AI, and human-centred design as appropriate.

Her current perspective on ageing in Europe is shaped by her 5-year caregiving experience in Alzheimer's disease. This experience deepened her understanding of the practical and emotional challenges faced by patients and caregivers and reinforced her commitment to developing solutions that fit naturally into people's everyday lives. She is particularly interested in how digital health, remote care, and AI can help people remain independent and supported in their own homes for longer.

After many years working in healthcare innovation, Silvia has come to believe that technology is often the easiest part of innovation. Meaningful progress happens when solutions are designed collaboratively, grounded in real human needs, and supported by the relationships, digital culture, and partnerships needed to make innovation adoptable.
